New look for Blackmore House

Durban High School's Blackmore House has undergone a revamp.

THANKS to generous donations by Durban High School old boys, trustees and other donors, the boarding establishment at the school has received a major facelift.

The revamped Blackmore House was launched recently. School headmaster, Leon Erasmus was delighted with the upgrade.

“A lot of money, effort and long hours has been spent on Blackmore House, which is the backbone of the school. I feel a school is poorer if it doesn't have a boarding establishment, and even poorer if it is not a good boarding establishment. The revamp of Blackmore House is the catalyst to the revival of DHS. This is a new era, it is not the school of 30 or 40 years ago, we excel in many areas and need to be competitive,” he said.

Erasmus said the revamp of Blackmore House was the first of three phases. The next phase will be the new management and the third will be to attract the calibre of boys the school wants at the boarding establishment.

“A strong boarding house ignites the rest of the school and we are truly humbled and blown away by the commitment, generosity and passion of the old boys who put in the effort. They deserve a product to be proud of. I thank Chris Seabrooke and trustees and donors, interior designers and project co-ordinators for their professionalism. Thanks goes to boarder master Charles Moodley as well as Foundation CEO Mike Fennell, who made it all possible,” said Erasmus.

The guests at the launch were treated to a performance by the Deo Fretus choir and star singer, Reece van Schalkwyk, and were able to take a tour of the revamped Blackmore House.
