UKZN ranks in best global 500 universities

The University of KwaZulu-Natal has been mentioned in the top 500 universities worldwide.

THE University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) has been ranked 417 in the US News and World Report Inaugural Best Global Universities rankings.

US News and World Report, a leading US-based publisher of education analysis and rankings over the past 30 years, released the inaugural Best Global Universities rankings last week at usnews.com

Prof Malegapuru Makgoba, Vice-Chancellor of the University of KwaZulu-Natal congratulated his team that ensured that the university featured in these rankings.

He said: “The University has made enormous academic strides in the last 10 years. Recognition must go to our dedicated academics who constantly strive to maintain the highest academic standards allowing us to be compared and to compete with the best institutions in the world. This is just another confirmation that UKZN is amongst the ‘elite’ of Global Universities.”

According to the communication received from the US News and World Report, the new rankings offer the most comprehensive assessment of research universities worldwide as well as by region and country. The overall rankings include 500 universities spread out across 49 countries. There are four regional rankings of the top universities in Asia, Australia/New Zealand, Europe and Latin America, as well as country-specific rankings highlighting the top schools in 11 countries, including Canada, China, France, Germany and Italy.

The overall Best Global Universities rankings encompass the top 500 institutions spread out across 49 countries. The first step in producing these rankings, involved creating?????????????????????????????????????? ?a pool of 750 universities that was used to rank the top 500 schools.

There are over 22 000 universities in the world and UKZN is proud to have performed better in almost all the rankings which include the Shanghai rankings, Time Higher and the QS ranking.

“In almost every ranking, UKZN has improved its ranking to be in the top five hundred out of 22 000 universities world-wide. It is a huge achievement for a young university that is only ten years old,” said Makgoba.
