Eskom holds off load-shedding

Eskom does not anticipate any load shedding for tomorrow, 4 November but urges consumers to live lightly.

ESKOM announced today in its update on the state of the power system, that it does not anticipate any load shedding tomorrow, Tuesday, 4 November as additional units have been returned from maintenance. Customers who experience power outages during this period, are advised to contact their electricity providers as it could be a localised problem.

Eskom says the risk of load shedding has reduced significantly and the prognosis for the week is better than expected. The system will be under extreme pressure on Wednesday and Thursday as the water reserves that were built up over the weekend for its peaking plants, will be depleted.

Eskom extended its thanks to customers who heeded calls to use electricity sparingly and again appeals to consumers to reduce their electricity usage throughout the day, but especially from 6pm to 10pm.

Eskom has urged all South Africans to pull together over the next few months and use electricity sparingly by “Living Lightly” this summer. Homeowners and businesses can do so with just four steps: first, switch off geysers and pool pumps; second, switching off non-essential lights; third, efficient use of air-conditioners by keeping the room temperature at 23⁰C; and finally, responding to the alerts on TV each evening.
