Load shedding possibilty, warns Eskom

The risk of load shedding as we enter November is high says power utility.

ESKOM has warned consumers and businesses to preserve electricity or face the possibility of load shedding. The parastatal said the power system is expected to remain constrained for the rest of this week due to technical issues experienced at some power stations.

“The power system is severely constrained today and will remain so for the rest of the week. This is due to technical problems experienced at some of our power stations and the loss of additional generating units. We are transitioning into a typical summer load profile and a period when maintenance is increased. As the system is tight, any additional problems experienced on the plant increases the risk of load shedding. This risk will continue into November.

“We are doing everything we can to ensure the continued supply of electricity and our technical teams are hard at work to bring back units at our generating plants. We appeal for sustained savings throughout the day in order to reduce demand on the electricity grid,” said chief executive Tshediso Matona.

The utility said it will make every effort to avoid load shedding, but as a precautionary measure load shedding schedules are available on the Eskom website (https://loadshedding.eskom.co.za/) for Eskom customers.

Eskom customers can also contact the customer call centre on 0860 037 566. Municipal customers should contact their municipalities for load shedding details.
