Progress as roadworks continue in Oliver Lea Drive

Motorists are urged to drive carefully in the vicinity of Oliver Lea Drive and Bartle Road.

RESIDENTS in Oliver Lea Drive can rest assured that the hole that has been plaguing them at the intersection of Oliver Lea Drive and Bartle Road will be fixed shortly.

According to residents on a community social media page, there was a sign stating road work was in progress, however nothing seemed to be happening other than a security guard who appeared to be employed to sit and watch the hole in the road.

In response to queries by Berea Mail, ward councillor, Nicole Graham, contacted the municipality to find out what was happening regarding the road works.

“Thomas Maduraimuthu from Roads and Stormwater Maintenance said the electricity and the water departments are undertaking two separate jobs in the area. Electricity is replacing a cable and this work is expected to continue over the next fortnight. The guard is most likely protecting the cable. Water is replacing a water pipeline. They will backfill and compact once installed. Maduraimuthu said Roads and Stormwater Maintenance will then reinstate the asphalt surface,” she said.

Graham said she was satisified that there was work going on, and would continue to monitor this and engage with officials to ensure the work is completed in the timeframes given.

The work is being done on a busy stretch of road, and motorists are urged to drive carefully as they pass the site.
