Morningside thief nabbed

ADT Security urges residents to be safety conscious, in light of an arrest of a thief recently.

A THIEF got more than he bargained for when he was apprehended in Morningside by an ADT guard recently.

ADT security officer, Michael Ngogwana, was on patrol at the intersection of Rorvick Avenue and Musgrave Road when he noticed a suspicious-looking man carrying three black bags, who was headed towards him. Ngogwana immediately requested armed response assistance via his two-way radio and instructed the suspect to lie down on the road. He questioned the suspect and learnt that he had broken into a Musgrave Road property through a garage door.

The suspect was immediately apprehended and handed over for arrest to Berea SAPS. The three bags that were recovered contained fishing gear.

Martin Kriel, Managing Director of ADT Security’s east coast region, advised residents to regularly check their perimeter security and to ensure that windows and doors are properly closed and locked overnight.

“As an extra security measure, consider installing outdoor beams; if you already have them ensure that they are also activated during the night and when your home is unoccupied,” he said.

Kriel also said should residents come across a suspect on their property, they should try to remain calm and immediately contact their security service provider or the local South African Police Service.

“Never confront them or attempt to capture the suspects because they may be armed and dangerous,” he said.
