Glenwood power cuts continue

Power outages in the Glenwood and surrounding suburbs are set to continue as attempts are made to fix aging infrastructure.

GLENWOOD residents and neighbours in surrounding suburbs may have to stumble around in the dark for a while longer as eThekwini Municipality enforces power cuts as its technicians try to repair old and dysfunctional infrastructure.

This follows Sunday’s power cuts which left residents in the dark on Sunday evening and again on Tuesday for about five hours.

The power cuts continued on Wednesday as power went off in a number of suburbs before midday.

According to the municipality, the problems have been caused by failing main feeder cables due to aging infrastructure.

Fixing the problem may take a while and technicians are currently investigating the problem. Spokesperson Deena Govender said both cables feeding Glenwood distributors sub stations are down.

An appeal has been made to all residents in the affected areas to switch off all non-essential appliances which will assit in maintaining an uninterrupted supply.
