Family disgusted after robbers plunder crash victims

The families of two men who died in a car crash were disgusted when they realised the victims were robbed moments before death at the scene.

THE family of the two young men who lost their lives in a tragic accident on John Zikhali (Sydenham) Road near Botanic Gardens have reacted with disgust after hearing thieves had robbed the two victims moments after the crash.

The victims of the crash and robbery are Avinash Budree (29) and his best friend Samuel Kisten (29).

A friend and spokesman for the Budree family who wished to remain anonymous said, “When we got to the scene they were already out of their vehicles. I believe they were taken out the vehicle and their cellphones and wallets were stolen.

“It is pathetic and inhumane to think that people, even robbers can prey on victims. They could see from the damage that it was such a serious accident so it is shocking that they would steal from the dead.”

Avinash had gone to a braai at his sister’s home and dropped his mother off at their Chatsworth home at about 9pm that night, before fetching Samuel and going for a drive into town said the family friend.

“Avinash was an absolutely humble young man, everyone who knew him spoke of his wonderful nature. This has come a shock to the family and the community as they were both childhood friends and both lived in the area.”

Avinash’s funeral will take place today, Monday 29 September, at his Crossmoor home from 2pm to 4pm.

The crash occurred at about 2am on Sunday morning after Budree’s Silver Polo veered out of control and collided with a tree.

Garrith Jamieson, operations director of Rescue Care said, “Paramedics arrived to find the vehicle on its side with the two occupants on the roadway. Paramedics rushed to assess the injured however found that they had sustained fatal injuries and had passed away before paramedics could arrive. The vehicle had sustained extensive damage as it had collided with a tree before coming to rest on its side.”

Its believed a security guard who witnessed the accident told police two men driving a VW Golf and a Polo stopped at the crash and robbed the victims before fleeing.
