Heritage month calls on blood donors

Don't let life get in the way of life, become a regular blood donor.

NOT only is September a month of celebrating the birth of new life, it is also a month during which South Africans acknowledge and celebrate their heritage.

“The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) is proud of its heritage and this pride is shown in many ways, such as the pride of knowing that together with our donors we make difference to the lives of those in need of blood transfusions,” said Sifiso Khoza, SANBS regional marketing manager.

This is why SANBS urges all its donors to not let life get in the way of life and make a minimum of four donations a year

“As we rapidly draw towards the end of another year, we ask you to commit to donate at least two times over the next four months. This will help the SANBS to avoid any possible shortages that are traditionally experienced from now until the end of the festive season,” he said.

To become a blood donor you must be between the ages of 16 and 65 years old, weigh more than 50kg, have eaten a good meal before donating, lead a sexually safe lifestyle and be healthy on the day of donation.
