Missing cop found in shallow grave

Nearly two weeks after being reported missing a Durban Central policeman was found dead in the South Coast.

THE the body of a Durban Central policeman who went missing just over two weeks ago was found dead in the South Coast on Tuesday evening.

According to information received from the police, a search began early on Tuesday morning with members from Berea SAPS and Search and Rescue investigating the missing persons enquiry which was opened by the mother of the missing constable.

The initial investigation by detectives revealed that the missing constable was last seen going out with two friends.

The investigating officer  checked the tracking company records of the vehicle he was last seen in, which led them to Mfuma on the South Coast where the vehicle had apparently stopped on the night the constable went missing.

The Berea team together with the Search and Rescue made their way to Mfuma and a search dog was sent into the bushes where he recovered the body in a shallow grave.

The victim’s wallet was also found in the grave. He has not been identified by the next of kin yet.

The deceased was a 31-year-old officer stationed at Durban Central SAPS. No arrests have been made at this stage but the Organised Crime Unit is investigating.
