Food for life project launch

A high tea will be held at UKZN to launch Food for Life's children's projects.

FOOD For Life SA, recently inaugurated a new branch under its structure known as Food For Life Children's Projects.

The project will be launched at a high tea on Saturday, 9 August at 3.30pm at the Innovation Centre, University of KwaZulu-Natal, Gate 9, Rick Turner Road, Glenwood.

According to the coordinator of the project, Divesh Maharaj, the specific mandate of the new branch is to facilitate the nutritional requirements of less fortunate children in order to support their holistic development through various educational activities.

He indicated that education was empowerment and the objective of the initiative was to provide needy learners with informal education that could supplement their mainstream schooling.

“Such informal education will include, eco-literacy, permaculture and tree planting activities. Heath and wellness programmes for kids will also form an important component of the project and re-cycling initiatives and the advantages of consuming organic foods will also be covered,” he said.

The project team will also source and distribute various learning aids such as earth globes and rubic cubes.
