Staff make sarmies for 67 minutes

Centre management and staff from Davenport Square stores spent their 67 minutes making sandwiches for needy children in the middle of the centre.

DAVENPORT SQUARE was transformed into a sandwich making haven as centre management and staff from the various stores spent their 67 minutes making sandwiches for needy children.

Nikki-Kim Yates, spokesperson for the centre said Davenport was a community centre and took any opportunity to get involved in community projects especially for Mandela Day. “We wanted to get in touch with a local children's home to donate the sandwiches and Childline referred us to the Lakehaven Children's Home. We also had a birthday cake made by Checkers which we donated to the Glenhaven Old Age Home.”

Yates thanked staff from the stores who worked like machines to get the sandwiches made as well as Checkers for donating 50 loves of bread and all the fillings for the initiative.
