Pupils learn road safety

Staff from Netcare Parklands Hospital shared road safety tips with Overport school pupils.

STAFF from Netcare Parklands Hospital conducted a Road Safety Programme at Overport Primary recently.

The programme was part of a community upliftment programme named TIP (Trauma injury prevention programme), aimed primarily at children up to the age of eight.

Netcare Parklands Hospital Emergency Department visited Overport Primary and addressed Grade 3 pupils on aspects of road safety.

The programme consisted of familiarising children with the Zebra Crossing, teaching them where they are permitted to cross the road, how to cross the road safely, not to play in the street and to hold an adult's hand when crossing the street. They were also taught how to make themselves visible when close to a road or street, how to cross a road at a traffic light and what the traffic light colours indicate.
