Woman arrested in Umbilo drug bust

The Durban Flying Squad has arrested an Umbilo woman for dealing in dagga after finding more than 50kgs of the drug in her home.

THE Durban Flying Squad’s Narcotics Task Team arrested three people for dealing in in dagga at a home in Umbilo on Tuesday afternoon, 15 July.

According to Captain Thulani Zwane, provincial police spokesman, members of the Durban Flying Squad Narcotics Task Team received a tip off that dagga was being sold at Brisbane Road, Umbilo. The members acted on information received through crime intelligence and held observation in the area.

“A house was searched where buckets and plastic bin bags were found full of dagga in the garage. Three suspects aged between 21 and 49 were arrested for dealing in dagga. A case was opened at Umbilo police,” explained Zwane.

He said police recovered and seized 50kg of dagga which had a street value of more than R50 000. The arrested suspects appeared in the Durban Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 16 July where Thandiwe Pamela Ngcemu (31) admitted that the dagga was hers and the other two suspects were released by the court.

Ngcemu was granted bail of R2000 and the case was remanded to 15 August.

“This is a clear indication that the SAPS members are working hard to bring drug dealers to book. Let us all stand together against drug abuse. We must not be intimidated by those who perform such acts,” said Provincial Commissioner of KZN Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni.
