Donate blood in Mandela month

#Time to Serve and make every day a Mandela Day by donating blood.

THE South African National Blood Service is urging the community to celebrate Mandela Day on 18 July, by using their 67 minutes to donate blood.

“The year 2014 is particularly symbolic as we strive to keep the legacy of this great statesman alive and make every day a Mandela Day. The message is simple for Mandela Month, that each individual has the ability and responsibility to impact positive change every day. In support of this, the South African National Blood Service is calling on all South Africans to make a difference by donating blood,” said Sifiso Khoza from SANBS.

The objective of the campaign is to inspire individuals to take action to help change the world and the lives of others for the better.

Khoza said blood donation is one of the simplest ways to make a difference to the lives of others and it is something you can continue to do every 56 days, a sustainable action to make a difference to the lives of others.

“Pledge your commitment to this cause today and continue making a difference to the lives of others. Don’t let life get in the way of life,” said Khoza.

To become a blood donor you must be between the ages of 16 and 65 years old, weigh more than 50kg, have eaten a good meal before donating, lead a sexually safe lifestyle and be healthy on the day of donation.

Donate blood today at Musgrave Blood Donor Clinic, Pardy Gardens Road, off Musgrave Road. Contact 031 201 3668.
