Friday morning crash halts traffic

An early morning crash caused a large traffic jam delaying motorists heading into the city this morning.

A morning collision on Magwaza Maphalala (Gale) Street brought traffic entering the Durban CBD to an almost standstill on Friday morning.

According to Garrith Jamieson, operations director of Rescue Care Paramedics the collision was between two vehicles on the corner of Blake Road and Gale Street.

“The two vehicles collided and one overturned. Paramedics attended to and transported one patient to St Augustine’s Hospital for minor injuries,” said Jamieson.

Although just one person was injured, three lanes were closed at 8.30am in peak morning traffic.

Jamieson acknowledged an increase in road accidents, over the last two weeks, which he attributed to the holidays. “Last week there were quite a few collisions with the July visitors and school holidays, there are just more cars on the road during the day.

“Be extra vigilant and even when the robot is green at an intersection, take an extra second look out and ensure there are no cars coming through, as motorists are commonly driving through red robots,” Jamieson advised.
