CHOC fundraiser lunges for life

Clifton School and Club Zero held a successful Lunge for Life fundraiser for CHOC recently.

CHOC KZN’S new fundraiser Lunge for Life was a great success at Clifton School recently.

Agie Govender, Divisional Manager of CHOC KZN thanked Club Zero and Clifton School for organising and participating in the first Lunge for Life.

“When brave young Robert Eddles, a learner at Clifton school in Durban was re-diagnosed with cancer in 2014, his mum Colleen Eddles and personal trainer and owner of Club Zero Hailey Cassim, knew it was time to get involved in creating awareness for children with cancer and CHOC – The Childhood Cancer Foundation SA,” said Govender.

Hailey and her team of trainers, together with the principal and teachers of Clifton, got involved in the event which was open to learners who lunged for 50m, 100m or 150m.

Govender said one in 600 children should be diagnosed with cancer. However less than half of this number is actually diagnosed. “It is with this in mind that CHOC creates awareness of the early warning signs of childhood cancer in the community. CHOC also provides accommodation for disadvantaged families to be near their children whilst on treatment and both board and lodge is completely free,” said Govender.
