Madeira Day festivities

The Regional Day of Madeira was celebrated on Sunday.

MADEIRA Day celebrations took place at the Portuguese Club (APKZN) on Sunday 6 July.

The celebration of Madeira Day was first established in 1989, by the organisation Representation of the Madeira Community in Durban.

Typical food of the region was available during the day, such as chicken peri peri, espetada (beef skewer), prego rolls, prawn pastries, cakes and other delicacies.

On the cultural side Folkloric Group Regions of Portugal and the Portuguese Association, Zulu Dancers and Indian Dancers performed a medley of dances. An exhibition of flowers and tourism information from Madeira was also on display.

The funds raised at this festival were donated to the Highway Hospice and the Portuguese Welfare.
