Dead bodies found on ship

The decomposing bodies of two individuals, believed to possibly be stowaways, were discovered by crew shortly after their ship docked at Maydon Wharf on Sunday.

POLICE have opened an inquest docket and are awaiting post-mortem results of two bodies, believed to possibly be stowaways, that were found on the bulk carrier, MV King Sugar which is docked in Maydorn Wharf.

The bodies were found shortly after the ship, which is registered in Panama, docked in Durban on Sunday.

Durban manager of Transnet National Ports Authority said the decomposing bodies were found by members of the crew on a stairway in the vessel.He said the cause of death was not known and the bodies had not yet been identified.

SAPS and the South African Maritime Safety Association are investigating.
