News from Berea SAPS

Berea police have worked hard to bring crime to a minimum this week.

Man arrested for possession of weapon

BEREA police received a complaint while on patrol early Monday morning, 8 June, of three men robbing people on Old Dutch Road.

According to Lieutenant PN Naidoo, Berea police spokesman, the officers responded and found three suspicious men walking up the same road. “They stopped and searched them and found an okapi knife in the pocket of the one suspects. He was arrested for possession of a dangerous weapon because the complainant could not be found to charge him with theft,” explained Naidoo.

Toilet roll thief arrested

A man was arrested for stealing toilet rolls at Musgrave Shopping Centre last Tuesday.

According to Lt PN Naidoo, an undercover security officer was on duty at the food court looking out criminals who rob people at the bank ATMS when he noticed a suspicious man.

“The man entered the toilets carrying a white plastic bag with a jersey inside it and when he came out of the toilet, the guard noticed the bag was bigger than before and a few rolls of toilet paper were visible. He informed his control room who called the police and together they arrested the suspect for theft,” said Naidoo.

Theft out of cars common

A man who had parked his car in Musgrave was lucky to have his property recovered after police caught the thief in the act on Tuesday.

According to Lt Naidoo, the man parked his white bakkie in Rosetta Road and closed all the doors and windows, but was later informed by police that something had been stolen from the vehicle.

“Police were patrolling and saw the suspect stealing an extension cord and arrested him for common robbery, theft out of a motor vehicle,” he said.

Naidoo advised people to be cautious and never leave any property visible in their vehicles.
