Load shedding probability is high — Eskom

Customers should brace themselves for possible load shedding this evening, says Eskom.

Eskom has announced announced a high probability of power cuts this evening from 5pm to 9pm.

In a statement released on Facebook, the power utility company said the grid remains under significant strain particularly from 5.30pm to 6.30pm, when the demand spikes primarily due to residential usage.

“In the event that #load_shedding is implemented, it will be done in stage 1 of the load shedding schedules and could move into stage 2 should the demand continue to increase.

“While the system will be under significant pressure tomorrow, load shedding is unlikely as the Friday load profile is generally lower than other week day peak periods,” Eskom explained.

Eskom suggested customers reduce demand in the following ways:

  1.  Switching off all office equipment before leaving the
    office, especially today and tomorrow,
  2. Switching off electrical space heaters, geysers, pool
pumps and non-essential lights and appliances,
  3. Postponing our cooking time to after 6.30pm.

As a precautionary measure, Eskom customers can find load shedding schedules on the Eskom website: https://loadshedding.eskom.co.za/
