Violent vigilantes attack Whoonga Park
A vigilante mob descended on Whoonga Park on Monday night.
CHAOS erupted at Whoonga Park last night with residents, fed up with criminal addicts lashing out.
The organised attack started at Whoonga Park but quickly reached parts of lower Glenwood including the busy Davenport area.
Residents of Glenwood were shocked by the attack which is believed to have been instigated by Dalton hostel dwellers, fed up with the thefts by addicts.
Heather Rorick, a counsellor and chair of the Bulwer Community Safety Forum witnessed the erupting violence and was nearly hit with a knobkerrie herself.
“Not all the people attacked last night are whoonga addicts!” she said.
According to Rorick, Safer Cities who have just started to work with some of the vagrants in the parks of Glenwood determined that many were South Africa’s, some are car guards.
“There are men, woman and elderly in this group – they were outnumbered by the attackers whom I hear were from Dalton – innocent people walking in the streets had to all run for cover as these guys on the attack were hitting who ever was in front of them – as these vagrant guys fell, they were attacked ten to one. Hit with knobkerries, bricks, sticks with nails in them.”
One man even tried to attack the BCSF.
“He missed the two of us by a whisker, the knobkerries hit the iron railing,” said the visibly upset Rorick.
The Whoonga problem has not been delt with so you have to deal the problem your self. They will do any thing for their fix. The Glenwood people have been hit hard but the Dalton guys hit even harder. Enough is enough. Unfortunatly when you have a box of Rats and there is one bad one what do you do. Kill the lot. That’s what is happening and will continue. I have seen too many peoples lives shattered by this deadly drug. It is cheap , deadly and very addictive
I believe that the attacks are not only fuelled by the fact that people are fed-up.
Almost all that is ever reported is the dramatically bad news. Check your own paper’s front page the last few weeks. The media is to blame for a lot of the hysteria that is building up.
These woonga addicts have been terrorizing Glenwood / Berea for long enough. The police have done nothing to protect residents and rate payers. They have failed us. It was inevitable that it would get to this, and I’m sure it will happen again. At least the Dalton Hostel people, have done something to hopefully get rid of them. Good work chaps.
