Cleaning up on World Environment Day

Miss Earth representatives made an example of cleaning up the environment.

IN celebration of World Environment Day, a group of individuals, dedicated to the care of the environment, got together to clean up the Blue Lagoon area.

The beautiful Miss Earth girls and current Miss Earth, Ashanti Mbanga, along with Ella Bella, the United Nations Youth Ambassador, ECR DJ Darren Maule, representatives from Ocean Basket, the mayor’s office, Southern African Sustainable Seafood Initiative and Durban University of Technology students, got busy clearing up any rubbish from the area, despite the chilly weather on Friday morning.

Ella Bella said it was important to create local ambassadors for the youth to look up to.

“It is vital the youth of today have someone to look up to, and for them to want to make a difference, to want to pick up litter and put it in the rubbish bin,” she said.

The workers were treated to a lunch at Ocean Basket after all their hard work.
