Teen jumps from burning building

A teenager was injured after jumping from the second floor of a burning building on Monday morning.

NETCARE 911 paramedics rushed to the aid of two teenagers who were injured when a fire broke out on the second floor of a building in St Georges Street this morning.

According to spokesman Chris Botha, one of the 16-year-old girls jumped from the second floor of the build and landed on the roof of the parking lot. Botha said the girls and her friend on the same floor were seriously injured in the fire.

“Paramedics had to climb up onto the roof and then immobilise her onto a specialised stretcher before lowering her down to road level,” he said. The girl was treated and she and her friend were transported to hospital. Three elderly people were also treated at the scene for smoke inhalation

The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage.
