Keep doors and gates locked

Bulwer Community Safety Forum urges residents to be more aware of their safety.

BULWER Community Safety Forum urges residents to be more alert.

This comes after a patrol at the weekend where the team noticed that many residents were still leaving their security gates and their front doors wide open.

“Just because you may have electric fencing, your driveway gate and front gate is locked, or you have big dogs does not make you 100 per cent safe. Criminals make sure they find ways in or around any fence or gate and dog, when they spot an open entry to your home. They are professionals, and will be in and out before you know what hit you. Keep security gates locked at all times,” said chairperson, Heather Rorick.

She said the group had also noticed young people walking in the area at night either chatting away on their cellphones or walking texting on their phones, oblivious to anything happening around them and making themselves easy targets for muggings.

“As for ATMs at banks, we observed many people so drunk they could hardly stand, going to draw money. They are easy targets as they are not aware of anything else around them,” she said.

She said the group was horrified by the number of men who were seen urinating against trees and walls of homes and businesses.

“Not only does it stink out the area, but it is a criminal offense and public indecency,” she said.

Rorick said the group was working with Metro Police on the parking problem which was becoming worse along Helen Joseph (Davenport) Road around the restaurants.
