Biker killed, 4 injured in Durban pile up

A biker was killed and four were injured in a multi-car pile up on Durban's M4 on Monday afternoon.

A biker lost his life after he was involved in a multiple car pile up on the M4 near Riverside Road Durban on Monday afternoon.

Rescue Care operations director, Garrith Jamieson said paramedics arrived on the scene to find the freeway totally closed in both directions after three vehicles and a bike had collided on the south bound carriageway.

“Two of the vehicles and the bike had exploded after the initial impact and were totally engulfed in flames. Our paramedics quickly assessed the injured whilst Durban Fire department extinguished the vehicles on fire,” explained Jamieson.

The bike was stuck underneath one of the vehicles. Paramedics found that the biker had unfortunately suffered fatal injuries and had died before they arrived. “Four more people had sustained various injuries and were stabilized on the scene before being transported to hospitals in Durban.

While it is unclear what caused the collision, police will investigate the accident further.
