Peaceful elections in Berea, say SAPS

Berea police reported that the election process in the Berea policing precint moved very smoothly on Wednesday.

BEREA police ensured the 2014 National and Provincial elections went off without a hitch in the Berea policing area.

According to Lieutenant PN Naidoo, communications officer at the station, members were in their numbers around the area as well as outside of the area in Zululand where they were deployed.

“The officers were on duty from 4am on Wednesday till 7am on Thursday ensuring the safety of our community and we are proud to say our elections was safe with no incidents to report.”

Naidoo said Lieutenant Colonel WR Xulu led the local members, while a team of 20 members, both detectives and uniformed police from Berea led by Lieutenant Colonel DV Pillay were deployed to assist the election process in Ceza, Ulundi. “The turnout in the rural area was very good and the people were very enthusiastic to vote,” said Pillay.

The election process around the province has been mostly peaceful with only a few incidents marring Election Day.
