Traditional healer arrested

A traditional healer has been arrested by Durban Central police after conning a desperate student out of R12 000.

DURBAN Central police arrested a foreign traditional healer for duping a desperate student last week.

According to Captain Kephu Ndlovu, Communications Officer at Durban Central SAPS, the man, a traditional healer going by the name King Omar, was arrested after a UKZN student saw an advert about a traditional healer who was going to assist her to bring back her boyfriend.

“The student informed us that the traditional healer had taken R12000 from her. The boyfriend is a Zimbabwean student also studying at UKZN. The student said she would meet the traditional healer in one of the hotels around Durban and each time they met, the traditional healer will give her something to use so that the boyfriend will come back. He conned her and told her to pay more money because the situation between her and the boyfriend was difficult,” explained Ndlovu.

During the past weeks the traditional healer told the young student to buy a goat and chicken so that he could cleanse her bad luck. “Sometimes she was ordered to be naked and the healer poured eggs on her body to cleanse her. The student’s name cannot be mentioned,” added Ndlovu.

Ndlovu said the traditional healer was arrested for theft under false pretences after the student phoned him as usual to come and meet her. The student told police she lied to her parents about not receiving financial aid and they managed to raise the large amount of money for her education, which she used to pay the healer.

“She also told the police that she is so grateful because the healer did not rape her. We warn members of the public not to trust anyone who is advertising themselves as healers because there have been a number of cases that have been reported to Durban Central related to people being conned.”
