Police nab defaulting drivers

Joint operation by Metro Police and South African Police Service to clean up the roads.

THIRTY-TWO public transport drivers were arrested in a Clean and Maintain My City operation held last Thursday at the corner of Anton Lembede and Mahatma Gandhi Roads.

The joint operation by Metro Police and South African Police Service included checking of vehicles and drivers to ensure they had the necessary licenses and permits.

Metro Police spokesman, senior superintendent, Eugene Msomi said the operation concentrated on checking warrants of arrest, roadworthiness of vehicles, street traders obstructing pavements, illegal panelbeaters, street car washers and stolen vehicles. He said 32 public transport drivers were arrested after they were found to have accumulated warrants of arrests.
