Pile of rubble a danger, say residents

Residents are fed up with the inaction of the municipality.

A PILE of rubble at the intersection of Bridgeview and Peter Mokaba Roads is a cause of concern to residents in surrounding blocks.

According to Sean Minogue, a resident at Lady Ann Lodge in Peter Mokaba Road, in February this year there was a serious water leak in Bridgeview Road and considerable road works had to be undertaken to repair it.

“This was done at night and the resultant rubble was temporarily dumped on the Lady Ann Lodge Property, that is understandable. However, despite a number of calls to the E-services office as well as a number of similar calls from our neighbours at Key Ridge, nothing has been done to remove the rubble. This is not understandable. What is even less understandable is the fact that a few days ago a sign warning of speed humps was erected on top of the rubble!” said Minogue.

He said this rubble had damaged the plants at the property and intrudes upon the access road within the premises.

“It is a danger to both pedestrians and vehicles, particularly at night,” he said.

A resident at Key Ridge said the weak link in the system was the inability of the roads department to remove the rubble. Since I sent an email to the water department, I have called a number of times and have received assurances and reference numbers that the rubble will be moved within days, but the rubble is still here. On two separate occasions a vehicle has arrived on site only to view the work that needs to be done and then drive off,” he said.

A representative from E-Services said the matter had escalated to the Water Plant for their urgent attention.
