ABOUT FEED THE BABIES FUND

FEED the Babies Fund has been addressing the issue of food security and specifically malnutrition, among orphans and vulnerable children since 1957.

The organisation currently feeds approximately 8 000 pre-school children in the rural areas, townships and informal settlements of Kwazulu-Natal.

Through their expansion into soup kitchens and other services, they reach a further 2000 adult and child beneficiaries weekly.

Its service to its beneficiaries is essential and life changing.

Its core project, Amandla kwi Zingane, focuses on feeding pre-school children from birth to six years old as this is the period during which the brain develops and grows the most. In order for a child to experience normal growth and enjoy a normal and full education, a balanced protein diet is essential.

Feed the Babies Fund provides creches with a fortified, concentrated cereal that contains the correct ratio of vitamins, proteins and minerals required for a young child.

Feed the Babies Fund supports the creches in their endeavours to beocme legally registered and self-sustaining. It works to facilitate the process of development by training care-givers in basic health and hygiene, first-aid and administration.

Its second project, the Isandla Esisizayo Project, benefits the greater communities that are home to its creches.

The focus of the project is the provision of items of comfort and joy to beneficiaries along with the provision of other foodstuffs, baby supplies, medical equipment, blankets, mattresses, clothes, toys and educational items.

Its Adopt-A-Creche campaign also falls under the control of this project, and includes the renovation and maintenance of creches.

The public can help by donating R30 a month to feed a child two meals a day for a month.

Donations of blankets, clothing, toys, stationery and other items are appreciated.
