Family has strong ties with Marist Brothers

The Kalil family has a long tradition with Marist Brothers.

The Marist lineage goes a long way back in the Kalil family.

Present day students at St Henry’s Marist College Michael, Jessica and Katelyn Kalil, are following in the footsteps of their two great grandfathers (Walter Honeywill and Albert Kalil) who attended the first boys’ school in Johannesburg, Marist Brothers in Koch Street, in the early 1900s.

The children’s grandfather, Mark Honeywill, and his two brothers also attended the Koch Street school in the 1940s, before moving to Marist Brothers Observatory.

Mark, for a time a Marist Brother, was principal at the Port Elizabeth Marist school.

The three young Marists’ parents, Heather and Grant Kalil, attended Marist Brothers Linmeyer and their great uncle was Brother Walter who taught at St Henry’s.
