Wanted man arrested

A criminal wanted for housebreaking and theft was nabbed by the police on Sunday.

A JOINT intelligence driven operation by Durban Flying Squad and Berea detectives led to the arrest of one of their most wanted suspects at Reunion Beach, in Isipingo on Sunday, 5 January.

The suspect (37) was wanted for house robbery, housebreaking and theft by false pretences. These cases were reported at Berea, Sydenham and Isipingo police stations. He is expected to appear in the Durban Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 7 January.

On 3 December at around 6.30pm the victim was with his wife at their home in Chancellor Avenue in Mayville when they were approached by three armed suspects. At gunpoint the suspects allegedly demanded cash and jewellery from the victims. They took jewellery, a laptop, a cellphone, a TV set and cash before they fled the scene in the man’s BMW.

A case of house robbery was opened at Mayville Police Station. In another case of theft by false pretences at Berea police station, it is alleged that the victim deposited an amount of R645 000 into the suspect’s account on different dates for a business that was on sale.

Provincial commissioner of KwaZulu-Natal, Ltt Gen Mmamonnye Ngobeni, is delighted with the arrest of the suspect. The members will work around the clock to try and link him to other house robbery cases that were reported in the greater Durban area. She encouraged the community to work together with the police in the fight against crime by reporting criminal activities to the police.
