Trains collide at Berea Road Station

Eleven people were injured when two trains collided at Berea Road Station on Friday.

POLICE are investigating the cause of a collision between two trains at Berea Road station in Durban on Friday morning.

One person was critically injured  while ten other passengers sustained moderate injuries, according to Chris Botha of Netcare 911.  Botha said rescuers had to use the jaws of life to extricate one of the drivers who was trapped inside the train he had been driving.

All the injured were treated at the scene before being taken to various hospitals.

Scheduling was not affected by the collision. Metrorail says scheduling will not be affected.

Botha said the cause of the crash was not yet known and police were investigating.
