Durban Sky Grand Prix set to thrill

Kids, adults, aviation enthusiasts and beach lovers can look forward to the first of its kind aerobatic aviation event taking place on Durban's central beaches.

DURBAN’S beaches will play host to the Durban Sky Grand Prix of Aerobatics which will debut from from 21 – 23 March 2014. The entertaining and exhilarating event brings together the world’s top aerobatic pilots in a six nations thrilling aerobatic challenge on Durban’s main beachfront.

Ten South African aero aces will compete head to head with five world and national champions from France, Russia, USA, Great Britain and Germany while flying the most modern aerobatic aircraft, pitting pilot and plane against each other as they test the limits of G-force, skill and speed in the skies above Durban’s world class beaches.

The internationally recognised aerobatic event, sanctioned by the International Aero Sports Federation (FAI), International Aerobatic Commission (CIVA) and South African Aerobatics (SAC), is a first of its kind to take place in South Africa and will be judged by a world class judging panel with live commentary featuring instantaneous scoring and dramatic big screen coverage.

Organisers will keep the crowds entertained over three fun-filled, adventure soaked days filling gaps between the grand prix flying with a show of land, sea and airborne entertainment that has never been seen in this format on Durban’s beaches before.

The full three days of entertainment will be provide free to the public, tying into KZN treasury’s commitment to take aviation to the people.

Apart from the exceptional flying, the event will offer an interactive experience for visitors as parts of Durban’s North beach, Bay Gardens and the promenade are transformed into event zones where the public will be able to meet pilots, learn about aviation or be part of other fun activities to keep them entertained outdoors.
