Clean sweep for Durban design students

Durban University of Technology, KwaZulu-Natal takes all three categories at The Sunflower Fund bandana design commission.

IN December 2012, The Sunflower Fund commissioned 3rd year students from Technikons across South Africa to design a surprise bandana. The results were overwhelming and the judges had a tough time making a final decision. For the first time since inception of the competition, all three winning categories have been awarded to Durban University of Technology, KwaZulu-Natal.

The excited teams collectively received R10 000’s worth of Pick n Pay vouchers for their efforts. The overall winning team, Michelle Bain and Megan Dube each received R2 500 in Pick n Pay vouchers.

“The inspiration behind this design was cancer patients both past and present. Through their strength and courage, more people are becoming aware of how serious a cancer diagnosis is and what it is like to live with cancer. With this design we hope to inspire more people to support both fighting cancer and finding treatment for those who are already living with cancer and to ensure that there are no new cases” – said the proud winners of the new 2014 bandana design.

Second place went to Ashleigh Moorgas and Kiara Goundler who each received R1 500’s worth of Pick n Pay vouchers while third place went to another group effort from Durban University of Technology, KwaZulu Natal – Kendall Cocking and Ashleigh-Lee McEwan and they each received R1 000’s worth of Pick n Pay vouchers.

National Bandana Day is the main fundraiser for The Sunflower Fund and this year over R4 million was raised.
