eTHEKWINI Municipality has issued a warning to the public and especially service providers not to be fooled by a con artist who requests quotations on behalf of the municipality.
The man, who goes by the name of George Langeni, contacts service providers for quotations for tenders which are advertised on tsibocreens.com and issues false municipal documents and order numbers. He then requests the service provider to issue an invoice and pay a 50 per cent deposit to a company called Tsibo Screens.
The City Integrity and Investigations Unit has discovered that several service providers have been contacted by the conman. He provides a City Hall address and telephone number which is linked to the PABX at Florence Mkhize Building.
The Municipality is clamping down and is adopting a zero tolerance stance on fraud and corruption. It urges the public to report these incidents to the City Integrity and Investigations Unit.
