Glenwood are masters of the quiz

Glenwood High School quiz team hands over books to Cato Crest Primary.

GLENWOOD High was the proud winner of the recent BDO inter school quiz.

The winning team was made up of Timothy Thumbi, Siphelele, Gabriel Davies and Noven Naidoo and coached by teacher, Vish Naidoo. “Having participated in the quiz when I was at school, I knew what to expect. I got together with the boys twice a week after school and went through possible general knowledge questions,” said Naidoo.

The quiz, which takes place every year in five regions in KZN is sponsored by BDO and Books & Books. The winners of the quiz get to choose an underprivileged school they would like to have R10,000 worth of brand new books donated to. The elected school gets to choose the books they want.

The boys of Glenwood High tutor the pupils at Cato Crest Primary and help them with English. “Since they already have a relationship with this school, the boys decided to donate the books to Cato Crest Primary,” said Cathy De Pace, a teacher at Glenwood.

An English medium school, Cato Crest has a total of 1186 pupils, most of whom are from underprivileged backgrounds. Deputy principal of Cato Crest Primary, Koliwe Mbatha has been at the school since it was established 13 years ago and was thrilled to accept the books that will be added to the school’s library.
