UPDATE: Umbilo shooting was an armed robbery

UMBILO police confirmed this morning’s shooting was a result of an armed robbery.

Captain Pumzile Makaula, communications officer of Umbilo SAPS, confirmed the 26-year-old man was a victim of an armed robbery.

 “The victim had stopped at the intersection of Rick Turner and Sydney Road I. His double can 4x 4 when a white VW parked at the intersection next to him and the occupants jumped out and fired eight shots at his vehicle. The victim sustained three gunshot wounds and was rushed to hospital,” she explained.

Makaula said the victim had returned from a local bank and suspects took the victim’s cash before fleeing.

No arrests have been made at this stage.
