Animal lovers protest against ‘big bangs’

BAN The Bang KZN gathered at Suncoast Pirates Lifesaving Club on the Durban Beachfront recently, to demonstrate against loud explosive fireworks.
The event highlighted the issues around wide-spread loud fireworks, particularly the drastic affect on sensitive people and animals.
It was the culmination of a lot of effort from animal rescue groups and firework ban initiatives. There are nearly 6000 supporters in the group and despite the rain, there was a good turnout.
A petition was presented by Judy van der Westhuizen from Khetani Animal Rescue, chairperson of the demonstration and there were talks by many guest speakers.
