Tafta walks for stroke awareness

Stroke survivors gathered to create awareness of the disease, which is called 'the brain attacker'.

TAFTA staff and stroke survivors got together on 28 October, to focus on stroke awareness.

A walk was held from the Amphitheatre, North Beach. This was a great opportunity for survivors to meets other survivors, network, and get free blood pressure and glucose tests.

Various tables were set up where people could ask advice from different organisations such as the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Saint Giles, CE Mobility and others.

Stroke “The Brain Attacker” is South Africa’s third biggest killer. Almost 270 people suffer a stroke each day and of these 67 people die from it. Eighty per cent of these deaths can be prevented with a healthy balanced diet, being physically active and by avoiding smoking.
