THE University of Kwa-Zulu Natal, UKZN’s executive management is saddened and appalled at the recent allegations of rape and theft against seven students.
Last week, Berea Mail reported that Umbilo police detectives were investigating a shocking case of seven counts of rape which allegedly occurred at a Durban UKZN campus on 17 November.
According to Lesiba Seshoka, executive director of the University’s Corporate Relations, the victim in the incident was not a student at the University but had accompanied the perpetrators onto campus.
“UKZN condemns violence against women in all its forms, including physical, sexual, and psychological. Rape and sexual abuse are a grave violation of women’s human rights and are never justified. The University does not condone any form of brutality to any sector of society. Any student found guilty of contravening any of the Student Disciplinary Code of Conduct will be subjected to the University’s Disciplinary process,” he said.
Seshoka confirmed the University is in the process of conducting its own investigation into the matter.
