Dance teachers honoured

The South African Society for the Advancement of Dancing honoured dancers of distinction.

DANCE teachers were honoured at a breakfast event at Blue Zoo, hosted by the South African Society for the Advancement of Dancing (SASAD), last week.

Speaking at the event, Ann Boardman said the breakfast was held to honour the wonderful teachers who had taught so many of the other teachers and dancers at the breakfast over the years.

“We wanted to thank them in a special way for what they have done for dance, and we decided that the five bursaries which will be offered for Congress will be held in their names. In that way, their names will live on,” she said.

She said the bursaries would giving promising dancers the opportunity to do blanket classes through SASAD. “Like the pupils these teachers taught, who are now also teachers, they are dancers of distinction,” she said.

The teachers, Ellie Hughes (96), who is still teaching line dancing at the old age home where she lives, Paddy Chelin (94), Pearl Beukes, Colleen Kelly and Esme Dann were honoured with a certificate of appreciation, a bunch of flowers and words of praise were read to them written by past pupils.
