Mayor walks for cancer
Durban Mayor, Zandile Gumede, took on a 5km walk in aid of cancer awareness and to promote healthy lifestyles.
ETHEKWINI Mayor Zandile Gumede, along with residents of Durban, took on a 5km Walk for Cancer from People’s Park to Blue Lagoon this morning (Saturday, 29 October).
The walk was in aid of cancer awareness and to promote a healthy lifestyle, and was held in collaboration with Mabliza Lifestyle, which offered healthy lifestyle tips from experts and free medical check-ups at the end of the walk.
There was also an aerobics marathon and the Mabliza Lifestyle workout DVD launch after the walk, at the Green Hub at Blue Lagoon.
Chief horticulturist for eThekwini Municipality, Lawrence Maduramuthu, said the event also showcased produce grown by groups who have been taught by the municipality to grow their own vegetables and to start up their own small, sustainable businesses. Tables were set out where people could buy the vegetables.
EThekwini municipality used this event to highlight that it’s never too late to start adopting a healthy lifestyle to guard against diseases such as cancer.
