Grow a mo, save a bro

IT’S that time of the year again, when men are encouraged to join the movement for men’s health.

Sign up and start Movember on 1 November, with a clean shave and grow and groom a moustache (or mo) for the entire month, to help change the face of men’s health in South Africa.

If the furry facial challenge is too much, or you feel that your lame mo attracts too much negative attention, sign up to take the Move challenge, which is whatever you can do to reduce physical inactivity. Run a race, learn to rock climb, workout in a costume – try something new, beat you own personal best and raise awareness and funds for Movember’s men’s health programmes.

They say behind every successful man, is a strong woman – Movember isn’t just about men changing their attitudes towards their health. The fairer sex, known to Movember as Mo Sistas also sign up on www.movember.com and support the men in their life – these are husbands, partners, brothers and fathers who are taken by diseases that can be avoided if addressed early enough.

Take the Move challenge for your hairier half or get a little creative and organise an event, have fun with it, round the mo’s up in your office to start a company team or network challenge or simply, give a Mo Bro a nod of encouragement and wink of appreciation. There’s so many fun ways to support, and woman are known to address health issues before men.

“The moustache is our ribbon for men’s health. As the pink ribbon is to breast cancer, our moustache is our ribbon – use it to raise awareness and funds and stop men dying too young,” said Garron Gsell, chief executive and founder of the Men’s Foundation which drives Movember in South Africa.
