Man killed in CBD building collapse

A construction worker was killed when part of a building collapsed on him.

A MAN was killed in a freak accident in the Durban CBD yesterday when part of a building collapsed on him.

According to Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesman, the man, believed to be in his 40s was part of a team, demolishing a building on Audley Road. “Paramedics, along with fire services, arrived on the scene and found a number of workers on the scene. Paramedics were informed that the men had been demolishing the building when part of it collapsed on one of the workers. Paramedics and fire services removed the rubble to free the man,” he explained.

Meiring said after some time, the body of the man was freed from beneath a large pile of rubble. Unfortunately, the man already succumbed to his multiple, fatal injuries and was declared dead on the scene.
