Cycling for children

A house-parent at iThemba Lethu, along with a group of his riding friends, will take on the Amashova Classic Cycle Race to raise funds for the organisation.

ETHAN van der Linde, along with a few local cycling buddies, will be taking on the 106km Amashova Classic Cycle Race from Pietermaritzburg to Durban on Sunday 16 October.

Ethan and his wife, Roxie, are house-parents at the iThemba Lethu Transition Homes in Manor Gardens, and Ethan and his friends have dedicated the ride to raise funds and awareness for the organisation.

The two homes currently care for 11 orphan and vulnerable babies and children who are threatened by HIV/AIDS and facilitates their reunification and adoption into permanent families. From 2001 to date they have co-ordinated 24 reunifications and 92 adoptions, seeing each child fulfill their destiny of growing up as a son or daughter in a forever family.

Ethan and Roxie joined the iThemba Lethu family in February this year and despite not having children of their own, have instinctively become devoted legal guardians to the five of the kiddies in their home.

Ethan is a fanatical cyclist and as such secured new branded cycling shirts from sponsor, David Wilson of Participate, for himself and his riding mates. They’re aiming to raise R25 000 for iThemba Lethu, and encourage the community to contribute as well.

Donations in support of this initiative can be made via eft to iThemba Lethu, Nedbank cheque account 1301 240 958, branch code 130 26, or through PayPal or Zapper – all details on www.ithembalethu.org.za “How you can help”.
