Man assaulted in hijacking

A man who was trying to assist a woman in a hijacking, was assaulted by the armed hijackers.

A MANOR Gardens resident was injured while trying to protect a woman who had been ambushed by armed hijackers in Rif Road on Sunday night.

Blue Security operations manager Brian Jackson said the resident had pulled up in front of his home in his vehicle just after his daughter's friend had arrived to visit her at around 7pm.

“She was in the process of ringing the gate bell when the gang of hijackers, driving a white Toyota Venture, suddenly drove up to the property. Three men jumped out of the vehicle and rushed towards her, demanding that she hand over her vehicle keys,” said Jackson.

He said the resident stepped in to defend the woman but was overpowered by the gang who then pulled out firearms and assaulted him. They hit him on the head with a firearm and knocked him to the ground and then repeatedly kicked him as he lay on the floor.

“The gang then fled in the woman’s vehicle,” he said.

Jackson said the resident had declined immediate medical attention. Mayille SAPS attended the scene of the crime.
