Beware of high-end bicycle theft

Berea police warn bicycle owners to ensure all bikes and cycling equipment is secured after a high end bicycle was recovered by police on Monday morning.

BEREA police encourage the community to be extra vigilant with bicycles after a high end bicycle was recovered in Morningisde in the early hours of Monday.

According to Captain PN Naidoo, Berea SAPS communications officer, “Our officers had just got on shift and were patrolling along Hollander Crescent around 6.15am when they noticed a homeless person and meter taxi driver arguing on the side of the road. Both allegedly claimed the bicycle. “Officers could see the bicycle did not belong to either of them when they stopped to investigate, the two abandoned the bicycle. In a separate incident, a suspicious man was arrested on Saturday for being in possession of another expensive bicycle,” he added.

Naidoo said bicycle owners should ensure their bikes and cycling equipment were secured. Community members with proof of payment or other forms of identification for the bike can visit the station.
