NPO braces for kitten season

Cats of Durban is urging cat owners to sterilise their pets to cut down on unwanted kittens.

LOCAL NPO, Cats of Durban is urging cat owners to sterilise their pets.

According to Niki Moore, August is the beginning of kitten season and all animal welfare agencies in Durban are bracing themselves for a flood of unwanted kittens. Most of these kittens face either euthanasia or abandonment, cruelty and abuse.

“In order to cut down on the number of kittens looking for homes, please sterilize your cat!” she said.

To make it easier for pet owners to get sterilisations done, Animal Anti-Cruelty League (AACL) has a special offer of R400 for the neuter of a male cat, and R500 for the spay of a female. If transport is a problem, they have a collection service of R150 for collection and delivery, depending on where they need to travel to.

“We are extremely grateful to the Animal Anti-Cruelty League for this service. Every year Cats of Durban, along with other animal welfare organisations, have to deal with the heartbreak of unwanted, abused and and unwanted cats. Please do not delay, or wait for your cat to fall pregnant,” she said.

Contact the AACL on 031 736 9093.
